Brotherton v Kettlethorpe
Brotherton 12 Kettlethorpe 24
16th Sept 2006

Kettlethorpe had an away fixture for their first game back since getting relegated from the Premier Division last season. The first score of the game came after a good 15 minutes of play, a simple inside ball from Jimmy Parker to Stuart Thorpe created a try under the sticks.

Kettlethorpe’s next came from a little break and a great off load by Ste Cardall to Martin Hartley who went over for the score. Kettlethorpe were on top of the game and another try soon came with Jarrod Hurd forcing his way over in the corner. Adam Rowntree added the extras to all first half tries with a penalty to take a half time lead of 0 - 20
The second half started well for the opposition with a try.
Ian Wilson made a break for Kettlethorpe and was backed up by Stu Thorpe who went in at the corner to get his second try of the match.

After this Brotherton came back with some good position in the Kettlethorpe half and resulted with 2 converted tries. It has to be said Kettlethorpe’s discipline was poor and together with many unforced errors were giving the home side the majority ball in the second half. Kettlethorpe held out well with some good defence and came close at the end with a disallowed try.

A break down the left with some good play from Kettlethorpe got their next score with Martin Hartley going in at the corner. Rockware were still in the game and had some further positive possession, until Cardall spotted a gap and went through untouched under the sticks. 30th Sept 2006

Martin Hartley opened the scoring for the visitors with a try in the corner. Further tries soon came from good attacking play by Kettlethorpe, first Ste Cardall going over and then Ian Wilson for a score a piece. Kettlethorpe’s last try of the first half came from strong running from hooker Craig Derrick who offloaded to Cardall for his second try.

Straight from the restart Oulton scored to narrow the lead but it was short lived as Phil Green set Cardall up for his hat trick under the sticks. Oulton seemed to tire in the later stages and Ian Wilson took advantage by putting Stuart Thorpe through a gap to go over for a try. From a scrum came Kettlethorpe’s next with a well worked move ending in Wilson getting his brace between the posts. Kettlethorpe’s last came from another Wilson ball again hitting Thorpe out wide to go in at the corner for his second. Adam Rowntree was again on target with an impressive 7 goals from 8 attempts.

Adam Rowntree added the extras to both tries and then added a further penalty to take a half time lead of 14-0.
